WFL Uniform Contest: Florida Blazers

The third and final round of concepts for the WFL uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted.

These are the designs submitted for the Florida Blazers franchise.

Curtis Peddle:
Logo- I thought the Blazers logo was a bit obscure, and I think my blazing football design is equally obscure.
Colors- Kept the colors basically the same. Added sleeve striping and shoulder decoration. Red and white jerseys - white jersey pictured is # 21 for their star RB Tommy Reamon.
Put the old logo as a patch on the centre of the chest under the front of the collar.

Thomas Felsmaier:
At first look, I had no idea what the Florida Blazers logo was and still am not sure. To update their look, I started with the logo. I took a "blazing" football and added an abstract "F" between the ball and flame. To keep the "F" oriented correctly, player numerals were placed on the left side of the helmet. I wanted to keep the team colors blue and red, but updated the tint/shades of them and added gray. Overall, I wanted to keep the jersey simple by today's standards much as it was in 1974.

WFL Uniform Contest: Jacksonville Sharks

The third and final round of concepts for the WFL uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted.

These are the designs submitted for the Jacksonville Sharks franchise.

Jeff Provo:
Jacksonville - The Sharks name and colors were brought back in 1976 after a poll showed it to be the fans' preference. A white outline was added around the helmet logo, and the silver and white were inverted. Al Davis sued, but the case was thrown out. The team added the black pants in 1998.

Curtis Peddle:
Logo- "S' shaped shark head on silver helmet. Jacksonville in-scripted above the head of the Shark. Colors- Using black and silver, added some teal. Shark fin design to the sleeve stripes.

These are the designs submitted for the New York Stars franchise.

Gene Sanny:

Curtis Peddle:
Logo- modern multi star logo on black helmet.
Home gold jersey. Wanted to make the major color gold since the Stars did wear a gold jersey in 1974. Unique star decoration to shoulders. Road white with gold pants.

WFL Uniform Contest: Shreveport Steamer

The third and final round of concepts for the WFL uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted.

These are the designs submitted for the Shreveport Steamer franchise.

Curtis Peddle:
LOGO- Same logo as the mid 70`s on a gold helmet.Classic logo that I think should stay for 2014.

Connor DuShane:
These are my designs for the WFL design contest.
I decided to keep the color scheme for the Steamers, however I updated the overall designs, as I did not like the solid green uniforms. I used designs from several college and NFL teams, and tweaked them to come up with these uniforms. I mixed in some old throwback designs as well, because I felt that the old and new should collide in uniforms for the 40th anniversary of the WFL.

WFL Uniform Contest: Chicago Winds

The third and final round of concepts for the WFL uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted.

These are the designs submitted for the Chicago Winds franchise.

Andrew Seagraves:
Chicago changed their green to Baffin Green and their pants to Baffin Gray. The Wind dropped the S in the 90s. Chicago secured a uniform deal with Danish uniform manufacturer Hummel; hence the chevrons which adorn their uniforms. Included is the Peyton Hillis player card.

Curtis Peddle:
Logo- Redesigned "W" logo with curve in the logo forming a "c" for Chicago. Alternating gray and white stripes to give the illusion of motion or blowing wind. Arm striping has a tattered wind damaged appearance.
Colors- Added a darker green, kept the white, but added gray and black to add some contrast. Gray pants at home and road.
Dare I say that the number font is in a Chicago Bears style !

WFL Uniform Contest: One team submissions

The third and final round of concepts for the WFL uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted.

These are the designs where only one team was submitted.

First up is the Toronto Northmen franchise.  This franchise never actually played in the WFL because they were moved to Memphis and renamed the "Southmen."

This is Andrew Seagraves' uniform concept of how the team would look in 2014.

The Toronto Northmen return from the south and come back with a simple, clean and modern uniform showcasing the CN Tower side panel, a replaced polar bear and shadowed numbers.

Birmingham Vulcans:
Jordan Reagan:
The Birmingham Vulcans: The color scheme changed to the colors of the Birmingham city flag meaning you lose blue and add gold. It's a brighter red than the 49ers and I shinier gold but when I finished I couldn't help but think "Niners". This is probably my most ambitious helmet design. The Blacksmith Hammer (a staple of the Roman Vulcan) would be in a shiny gold bisecting the matte red and white hemispheres. Sleeve striping moves to the shoulders.

Jacksonville Express:
Curtis Peddle:
Logo- modernized speeding train logo to helmet brings the Express into 2014 !
Colors - black, light gold , red. Kept the gold pants for home and road. Double color numbers. Once again added a shoulder decoration and kept the helmet striping consistent with the original.

Norfolk Fire
Andrew Seagraves:
25 years after the failure of the Washington Ambassadors to get off the ground, Norfolk, VA was awarded an expansion franchise. The Businessmen decided to keep with history to take on the Fire moniker which the first Chicago franchise had. Norfolk uses a black lid with flames down the side and incorporated Chrome Yellow as a highlight color. Included is the Josh Morgan player card.

WFL Uniform Contest: San Antonio Wings

The third and final round of concepts for the WFL uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted.

These are the designs submitted for the San Antonio Wings franchise.

Curtis Peddle:
Colors are navy, white and blue. Wanted to keep the wing design to the helmet, changed to a dual color design. Added the old logo as a patch to the collar.

Jordan Reagan:
The San Antonio Wings: I updated the helmet wings and added helmet numbers, providing an updated, sleek look. The sleeve and pants stripes emulate the helmet striping without going overboard. The color scheme screams Dallas Cowboys to me but the powder blue is a nice look in any league and was missing from any team represented. The pants can be swapped and go with either top.

Andrew Seagraves:
The San Antonio Wings were in financial trouble through out their time in Texas when a consortium between Larry H. Miller and Rio Tinto agreed to purchase the team and move it to Utah. The squad adopted Utah Jazz Blue and Copper (for Rio Tinto) as their main colors.

WFL Uniform Contest: Detroit Wheels

The second part of the World Football League uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted!

This is a look at the designs submitted for the Detroit Wheels franchise.

Curtis Peddle:
Logo - Slanted speeding winged wheel logo to gold helmet. Gives a shout out to the Red Wings logo a bit.
Colors- Colors are similar to 1974, black, gold and red. Simple arm stripes and wheel patch to sleeves. Also added varsity style numbers to front, back and shoulders.
No more financial troubles for this franchise.

Gene Sanny:

Bryan Ross:

Mark Rabinowitz:
My Detroit Wheels revival uses freeways and freeway signage as its motif (Freeway Gothic NOBs and numbers; stripes styled like two-lane highways; uniform numbers in warning signs near tops of pants stripes). More details about this design at markrabo.blogspot.com

WFL Uniform Contest: Birmingham Americans

The second part of the World Football League uniform contest on Uni Watch is now posted!

This is a look at the designs submitted for the Birmingham Americans franchise.

Gene Sanny:

Jeff Provo:
Birmingham - The name was changed back to Americans with a new logo in 1976 for the bicentenial, and the team's success on the field made them decide to keep it that way. The uniforms were modified slightly in 1977 to fix some striping inconsistencies, and modern short sleeves have eliminated half of the original stripe pattern, but aside from that the uniforms have been unchanged.

Curtis Peddle:
Logo - 1974 had an A, going with the B decal with flying single star for 2014 , the star forming 2 red stripes on the letter B. The stars and stripes if you will.
Keeping the red, white and blue, single star patches to shoulder, along with a unique shoulder stripe design. Also going with the mono white for the road. Double color numbers in a gothic type font.
WFL patch as usual.

HHH:
Birmingham Americans: Special uniform for 1976 bicentennial season featured red and white striped pants. Striped pants never worn again until new uniforms resurrected them in 2010. Unis tweaked every year after until new set without stars or stripes debuts in 2014.
